What Is Skin Graft Camouflage Micropigmentation?

Skin grafting is a vital procedure used to cover extensive wounds that cannot be closed with sutures or would otherwise result in significant scarring. While essential for healing, both the recipient site (where the graft is placed) and the donor site (where the skin is taken from) can develop noticeable differences in colour, texture, and overall appearance. If these visible differences are impacting your confidence and quality of life, skin camouflage could be an effective solution to consider.

At FTG Clinics, we offer microneedling and medical micropigmentation (also sometimes referred to as medical tattooing and / or skin camouflage tattoo). Microneedling can help to treat the scar boarder, breaking down scar tissue whereas micropigmentation helps to reduce the visibility of skin grafts and create a more natural, blended appearance through the implantation of colour into the skin.

How Does It Work?

After a skin graft has fully healed, Medical Micropigmentation can be used to implant custom-matched, medical-grade pigments into the graft, helping it blend with the surrounding skin. This gradual process is carried out over multiple sessions, allowing the colour to develop in natural, subtle layers for a realistic result. Most treatment plans require 2-3 sessions, though larger graft areas may need additional treatments.
